Shear Honesty

I've been looking for someone to cut Jackson's hair lately without making him look like Jim Carrey from Dumb and Dumber.

One of my best girlfriends, Kari (who has impeccable style) recommended a local trendy budget salon that is quite hip.

You know the one, all of the stylists wear black, are super skinny, covered in tats and have crazy hair styles.

So I walk in with my screaming baby and hyper two-year-old. The minute I enter the building, I get the looks. All of whom which seem to be saying "seriously lady! You're bringing those rugrats into this establishment!" But I couldn't embarrass myself even more by turning around and walking out. So I sign Jack in for a trim.

Anyhow, Jackson ends up with a very trendy young stylist, lots of black eyeliner, a very tall mohawk and a very stern look on her face...all of which, he is completely unphased by.
And up he goes, into the chair, a superman figure in each hand and a big smile on his face (expecting as always to get a lollipop if he's a good boy).

As I'm keeping the baby preoccupied in the waiting area and watching from afar (to make sure Jackson is okay)...I become intrigued by their conversation. She is actually very sweet and starts asking him about his day. He responds with a few cute answers which catches the attention of the rest of the salon.  This is when my alarm goes off! ...CRAP!...he better not say anything I wouldn't want him too...and then it comes...

"Do you go to school?" she asked. Jackson nonchalantly replied, "Yeah, I go to school where I go poop and pee on the potty."

I jumped up as fast as I could cursing myself for not having originally left. "I'm warning you!" I yelled, "My child has no monitor on what he says!"

The team of hip stylists all gave each other what seemed like an eternity of glances before turning to me with lots of laughter and smiles. "We would welcome the honesty and humor of a two-year-old any day over a stuffy adult who thinks they're too cool."

In the end, Jackson got a very cute, spiky hair-do. He made lots of friends and although I almost had a heart attack, he taught me a very important lesson...

A sweet two-year-old with lots of smiles and brutal honesty is bound to make a friend out of anyone, no matter how cool-for-school you might be!!

The Crazy Things I Find Myself Doing Lately.

I've struggled lately finding a topic to blog about, feeling run-down, stressed and just too busy. So instead, I have decided to make fun of my own silly ways and share some of the crazy things I have found myself doing lately as a stay at home Mom and Wife.

The Crazy Things
I Find Myself Doing Lately...

10. Eating my 2-year-old's left over, dried-up lunch for dinner.

9. Wiping my dirty hands on my pants throughout the day with the justification that I have already been puked, pooped or spit-up on.

8. Preferring my kids' sing-along music while driving alone.

7. Using the boys' wipees when the TP runs out.

6. Microwaving coffee in the morning from the day before.

5. Wishing that the grocery store had a drive-through! (And being oh-so-grateful for the beloved Starbucks' drive-up window).

4. My 2-year-old insisting on me singing the "Small Potatoes" theme song in the doctor's office and I do it.

3. Only having enough time to shave one leg.

2. Worshipping the babysitter like a god, because my husband and I are like passing ships in the night, only to spend our entire date talking about the kids and checking in on them.

1. Spending the day looking forward to bedtime in order to savour a quiet moment, only to find myself missing the boys so much that I have to sit and watch them as they sleep, so peacefully in their snuggly beds.

btw, Happy Halloween!
enjoy every moment with your little pumpkins.

Have I Ever Told You?

Have I ever told you
that you teach me to laugh
You laugh often. You make me laugh. And it is good.

Have I ever told you
that because of you, I am learning to be patient
So that your memories will always be sweet ones.

Have I ever told you
that you are teaching me the value of five minutes
A busy mommy can get anything done when given just a few free minutes.

Have I ever told you
that you inspire me to be kind
So that you will learn to care about others.

Have I ever told you
that you bring me unsurpassable joy
Your smiles are medicine to my soul.

Have I ever told you
that you are teaching me the value of good rest
Play hard, sleep hard.

Have I ever told you
that you inspire me to have fun
And the worries of Momma's day just seem to drift away.

Have I ever told you
that you are teaching me to never take myself too seriously
Life with you is just too much fun to waste a minute with worry.

Have I ever told you
that just when I think I love you the most,
I realize in a minute that I love you even more.

Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chunks

To hold onto this yummy Fall recipe would be a crime! My sweet friend, Chelsie Johnson brought this pumpkin bread to me and I swiftly proceeded to eat the entire loaf within a day and a half. So late last night during a sweet tooth craving, I decided to try the recipe out myself and it again did not disappoint! So now I am sharing this recipe with you...as long as you promise to enjoy every bite and share it with others!....

Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Chunks
Ingredients:
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 c sugar
1 2/3 c flour
3/4 tsp salt
1 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon

2 eggs
1/2 c veg oil
1 c pumpkin
1/2 c water
1 c semi sweet chocolate chunks

1. Lightly grease  a 9x5 loaf pan. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Combine the dry (first 8) ingredients.
3. In a separate bowl mix the eggs, veg oil, pumpkin and water.
4. Add the moist mixture to the dry until well blended. Stir in chocolate chunks. Pour batter into prepared pan.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 60 minutes. Makes one loaf. ( I needed to cook it an extra 5 minutes.)

I hope you are enjoying the beginnings of the beautiful Fall season. The boys and I are welcoming the cool breezes with open arms and spending as much time outside as possible. Here's Jackson and Nathan right before their first slide ride together!...

My New Welcome Post

...My recent urge to craft continues...
this week was a project I found on Pinterest (surprise) again...Only took my husband one run to the hardware store to purchase the necessary electric power tools. A bit much? Probably so, but I'm happy with how it turned out. And I'm convinced my creative energy is a positive release from all of the stress of being a stay-at-home mom and wife.

Here is the final product. I'm proud of my Welcome Post let alone that I even finished it, another way to try and spruce up our front porch...
The original creator and a full tutorial can be found here. She had the cute idea to make different signs for the different seasons...we'll see if my craftiness continues...I guess that depends on how stressed out I'm feeling.

Random Rambling...
Here is a highlight from my past week...enjoying the last few weeks of humid summer heat...(but oh-so-ready to welcome the cute-boots-sweater-pumpkin-spice-latte season!!)

Pinterest: A passing fad or here to stay? I don't care!

So my hair dresser was washing my hair the other day and I was asking her about her cute up-do. "Pinterest!" she said, all excited! I had absolutely no idea what the heck she was talking about....only later to go home and log on...to...the. best. website. ever. A one-minute-wonder? Or here to stay? I don't care! I love it.....www.pinterest.com. I created a profile and quickly became mesmerized by all of the beautiful things that I must have or must make.

My husband was skeptical. "I don't get it," he told me. "It's a waste of time."

Oh contrare, my love.

I can't sleep. The DIY crafts, party ideas, yummy recipes are flying through my head like a growing cancer.

I'm on project number two. I packed the husband and kids into the car today, heading for Home Depot to collect my supplies. And yes, it was an early Sunday afternoon (middle of 3 fantasy football games mind you). My husband tried oh-so hard to pretend he wanted to be there (all the while his iphone speakers are broadcasting the football games throughout the aisles of Home Depot), the baby's diaper has exploded and my two-year-old is hysterically insisting that he gets to push the cart "like a big boy today!"

Needless to say, Pinterest has a special place in my heart...and I think it's here to stay (for a while).

Here is a festive project I just completed to get my family in the mood for the upcoming spooky holiday...

I am not and don't claim to ever have been a crafty person. And these are not nearly as beautiful as the original creator: http://seeinginkspots.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-nice-day-for-white-pumpkin.html, but all the while it was fun, my kids love them and now I'm off to my next DIY craft for the fleeting moment!...

Oh yeah, gotta give credit to my little helper guys...

Hello, from "that" Mom at the grocery store...

I've come to the realization lately that between 7am and 7pm, life is pretty chaotic. It's a sweet "dance" as you may, that swings between complete chaos to quiet precious moments...that quickly returns to a chaotic storm once again. I just joined a weekly womens' book study called "The Power of a Positive Mom"...let's just say, I'm trying really hard to enjoy every little second I'm given with my precious baby boys (with as much patience and positivity as possible)....

It's a crazy life! But I wouldn't change it for the world!

Being a stay at home mom has it's challenges, but I take pride in knowing I am the one who gets to witness the boy's firsts and all of their crazy memories between each other. I thought these photos (and yes, I was taking pictures of the boys in the grocery store aisles) pretty much summed up my life right now. Hope you enjoy...
